(Washington, D.C.) — President Biden said on Thursday during a CNN town hall that he was open to ending the Senate filibuster to pass voting rights legislation and other parts of his agenda.
The following is a statement from Damon Hewitt, president and executive director with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law:
“It’s good news that President Biden is open to ending the filibuster to pass voting rights legislation and more. As long as this racist relic of the Senate stays in place it will prevent legislation that advances racial justice, both now and in the future. It’s a simple choice between a free America or one chained by the past. Our democracy hangs in the balance.”
