Endorsement: Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act
To divert federal funding away from school-based law enforcement and towards evidence-based and trauma-informed services that create positive learning environments, the national Lawyers’ Committee has endorsed the Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act.
Upholding the Mandatory Civil Rights Data Collection
To ensure educational opportunities for all children and make sure the Department of Education is complying with federal law, the national Lawyers’ Committee and 37 other organizations sent a letter to the Department of Education reiterating how vitally important it is to preserve the scope, frequency, and public accessibility of the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC).
Reinstate Affirmative Action in Public Contract, Employment, and Education in California
On April 30, 2020, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, joined by 11 other national organizations, sent a letter urging California lawmakers to repeal Proposition 209, a ban on affirmative action which caused college admissions rates for minority groups to plummet. The groups support ACA 5, which will create equal opportunities for all Californians and fight discrimination and bias against women and people of color.
