Officials in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina Move to Block Pro-Democracy Reform
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, released the following statement in response to lawmakers in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and North Carolina taking extraordinary steps to pass new laws that will make it more difficult to vote:
“In no uncertain terms, we condemn the 11th hour efforts being made by lawmakers to undermine the important pro-democracy reforms and measures that have been passed by voters. This naked power grab by lawmakers undermines the public’s confidence in the electoral process and breeds distrust in elected officials. These attempts to block reforms and stunt progress are incredibly anti-democratic.”
