Marks Largest Nationwide Bilingual Voter Protection Media Campaign

NEW YORK – Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced it is building on its voter engagement efforts by partnering with the Election Protection Coalition, the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition, to help ensure every voice and every vote is heard during the electoral process. The Fusion Media Group (FMG), a division of UCI, will also join the effort. The Election Protection Coalition is led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (Lawyers’ Committee) and represents 100+ organizations, including the NALEO Educational Fund, NCLR, LULAC, USHLI, TurboVote, Rock the Vote, Asian Americans Advancing Justice—AAJC, National Coalition for Black Civic Participation and a range of other organizations that  work year-round to defend every American’s right to vote.

Earlier this year, UCI launched a comprehensive non-partisan voter engagement campaign, Vote For Your America, with the aim of increasing turnout for Hispanic, multicultural and millennial voters in the 2016 general election and preceding national primaries. Building on this unprecedented effort to mobilize people to register to vote, UCI and FMG are informing and empowering its audiences with information about voting rights by promoting the Election Protection Coalition’s hotlines across its broadcast, digital, social, radio and community empowerment platforms including the Univision Network, Galavisión, Univision Local Media, Univision Digital, FUSION, The Root and Onion Inc. The hotlines include 866-OUR-VOTE, led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and 888-Ve-Y-Vota, a bilingual Spanish language hotline led by the NALEO Educational Fund. In addition, UCI will co-host a series of educational voter protection workshops nationwide.

“Since UCI started more than half a century ago, our mission has been to empower the communities we serve on the most critical issues that affect their lives,” said Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, executive vice president of Government & Corporate Affairs. “This election year, we want all voters to have all the information they need to make their voices heard in November and that includes knowing their rights. By partnering with the Election Protection Coalition we’re able to give our community access to experts and resources so that they can cast their ballot.”

“America is more diverse than ever and the Fusion Media Group is committed to ensuring that those young, multicultural voters who make up the changing face of our country have a say at the ballot box. The partnership with the Election Protection Coalition will empower our audience with the information they need come November,” said Chad Boettcher, senior vice president of Social Impact at FUSION & managing director of Rise Up.

“The right to vote is the most important right in our democracy,” said Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. “We are proud to partner with Univision to ensure that the growing diversity we see across our nation is reflected at the polls on Election Day. The Election Protection program is dedicated to protecting the right to vote and ensuring that all communities are able to freely cast a ballot.  The moment is now ¡Es el momento!”
