Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, NALEO Educational Fund, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-AAJC and APIAVote will help voters navigate voting process and engage them in social media campaign.

Media Teleconference, Wednesday, February 24, 2016, 12:30 PM EST

Washington, D.C.– Less than a week from Super Tuesday, voting rights leaders from four national nonpartisan organizations from the Election Protection (EP) coalition will hold a teleconference to discuss their voter protection resources and how they will empower voters in the 2016 election. A key part of the 2016 EP program is a social media campaign to engage and educate voters throughout the year. State advocates from Georgia, North Carolina and Texas will also discuss restrictive voting practices in their states. EP will also release the first report in a series of briefs describing the state of voting rights leading up to the November election, which will be the first Presidential election since a 2013 Supreme Court decision that gutted a Voting Rights Act provision that prevented discriminatory changes to election laws. In the three years since, numerous states and local governments have passed restrictive voting laws or implemented voting practices that disproportionately impact voters of color.
