(Grand Rapids, Mich.) – Federal Judge Linda Parker rejected a request from a group of Michigan Republicans, who sought a temporary restraining order against the November election results and would have disenfranchised 5.5 million voters. The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law intervened in this lawsuit, and represented the Michigan NAACP. Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, issued the following statement:

“This is yet another example of the way in which courts are roundly rejecting these baseless attempts to alter the outcome of the 2020 election. Judge Parker’s decision not only observes that the claims in this case were moot, untimely and without basis in fact or law, but acknowledges the sanctity of the right to vote for more than 5.5 million people across the state of Michigan. We are hopeful that this week marks the end of the road for remaining legal challenges mounted by President Trump and his allies that are cluttering the courts in a handful of states.”

Background:

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law has been engaged in more than 15 of the federal and state lawsuits that have been brought by President Trump and his allies challenging the outcome of the Nov. 3 election.
