Adria Bonillas
CounselAdria Bonillas serves as Health Equity Counsel at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. In her role, she strategizes on ways to advance health equity, combat racism and discrimination in the provision of health care, and improve access to health care for communities of color.
Before joining the Lawyers’ Committee, Adria worked at the Center for Reproductive Rights where she assisted with all aspects of the Center’s U.S. litigation, helping to defend abortion access at the federal and state levels. While at the Center, Adria also represented clients on compliance matters, helping healthcare professionals navigate the complex and ever-changing legal landscape.
Prior to these roles, Adria worked in government for the New York City Law Department where she represented the City of New York, its agencies, and employees in federal civil lawsuits. There, she handled all aspects of litigation, including motion practice, taking and defending depositions, and trying cases to verdict.
Adria received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law. In law school, she was an editor for the American Journal of Law and Medicine and served as a student attorney in the Employment Rights Clinic where she represented low-income clients in wage and hour disputes and discrimination actions. She also interned for U.S. District Judge Dean D. Pregerson in the Central District of California and in the civil division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston.
