To commemorate the 56th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and The CW Network have partnered to launch a new, non-partisan effort to ensure voting rights for all citizens.
We know that encouraging people to vote is meaningless if their right and freedom to vote is undermined on a daily basis. Some falsely believe that voter suppression efforts are simply about politics and are not discriminatory. These beliefs are dangerous and run counter to a true democracy. Yet, so many messaging efforts stop at voter awareness and do not go all the way to embrace voter protection. Even otherwise, savvy media sources often attribute the wave of voter suppression efforts to a Democrat vs. Republican battle when the right to vote is a non-partisan issue. In contrast, the actual impact on Black voters is barely mentioned.
It’s time to shift the narrative and mainstream not just the importance of voting but also the importance of everyone defending that right.
That’s why we are proud to announce a partnership between the Lawyers’ Committee and the CW Network to launch a new, non-partisan initiative to help promote the freedom to vote and end discrimination in voting. The project is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and features a wide array of the network’s on-screen talent in video spots and social media content using language supporting and defending voting rights.
The spots will air throughout the summer during primetime on broadcast television as well as posted on its digital and social media platforms including The CW and CW Seed apps, CWTV.com and CWSeed.com.
Among The CW talent featured in the multiplatform campaign, include:
